The Countdown

The Countdown: 2010 List

I shudder at the thought of not having all of last season’s Countdown saved for posterity — all that work down the drain and so forth, but also because man can only learn from his mistakes, and as last summer’s work eventually illustrated, I’ve made a few. So consider this post both a place-saver for the 2010 Countdown and a refresher of how mistakes have been made and will most assuredly be made again. Michigan State at No. 51? Yeah, that happened; so did U.C.L.A. at No. 40, Mississippi State at No. 73 and so on. The 2011 installment of the Countdown is scheduled to drop Monday, with a hint for team No. 120 coming either Sunday or Monday morning. A link to the 2010 list will appear underneath the Countdown header along the right sidebar.

I’m curious to see where Northwestern ends up, given that they have so many returning starters, especially on offense. The health of Dan Persa is paramount, I realize. And the defense is going to have to elevate its play from the dismal final three games of the 2010 season. But I sense that Pat Fitzgerald is going back to basics and instilling a “killer instinct” in the 2011 team, so as not to blow the big leads in 2011 that we saw blown in 2010 to Michigan State and Penn State.

Given the state of the Cubs right now, Camp Kenosha XX can’t come soon enough!
