Puddles the Duck Does it Again

I’ve tried to keep my love of college mascot shenanigans a secret. Yet I can’t get enough of Oregon’s Puddles the Duck — quite possibly the finest mascot in all sports, college or otherwise. That’s him above, doing his thing, shimmying, shaking, juking, jiving, just being Puddles. I don’t care who’s inside that costume; I want to hug this duck.

Here’s an interesting item on Puddles via the Oregon communications department:

The Oregon Duck remained the lone duck mascot in any collegiate or professional capacity until the advent of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks franchise in the National Hockey League in 1993. Now, he looks forward to the next millennium in yellow and green as Oregon’s enduring ambassador for the future.

Puddles is an ambassador, in my opinion. What else can I say about this lovable lug? He likes to dance, as you can above. The dance itself is known as the “Dougie,” and it’s sweeping across the nation — see Reggie Bush give his version after scoring against the Cardinals. Braylon Edwards tried to do the same after scoring against the Patriots earlier this season.

Puddles also likes to fight, as we’ve seen countless, countless times. My favorite, of course — something I’ve linked to before — is the Duck’s one-sided match against Houston’s mascot:

Man, I love Puddles. Thanks for indulging me. Real college football coverage will come shortly.

Puddles- “quite possibly the finest mascot in all sports.” Paul – Bango the Milwaukee Buck and Clutch the Houston Rocket mascot each might have a little something to say about that. Bucky the Badger also merits consideration.

If you watched College GameDay when it was at Autzen, you were treated to a very enjoyable show. The hosts couldn’t even avert their attention from the Duck.
