P.S.R. 1-120: Week 15 Re-Ranking

With the regular season nearly the books — only the Army-Navy game remains — here’s a look at how the country ranks. The top 25 teams land a one-sentence breakdown. The rest? Not so much. Part of the perks of being one of the best. Think your team is too low? Feel another team deserves more credit, less credit? Let’s hear it below. Hold onto your hats: there won’t be another re-ranking until after bowl play.

The Top 25

1. Oregon (12-0, 9-0)
The Ducks punch their ticket to Glendale.
2. Auburn (13-0, 8-0)
Likewise for the Tigers; we’re counting down the days.
3. T.C.U. (12-0, 8-0)
From end of season until Rose Bowl: 36 days.
4. Wisconsin (11-1, 7-1)
The Badgers will meet T.C.U. in Pasadena.
5. Stanford (11-1, 8-1)
The Cardinal ended their season with seven straight wins.
6. Ohio State (11-1, 7-1)
The Buckeyes edged out Michigan State for second B.C.S. berth.
7. Michigan State (11-1, 7-1)
Once again, three’s a crowd at the top of the Big Ten.
8. Arkansas (10-2, 6-2)
The Razorbacks are Sugar Bowl bound.
9. Boise State (11-1, 7-1)
Back in the win column after a one-week absence.
10. L.S.U. (10-2, 6-2)
The loss to Arkansas prevented L.S.U. from making the B.C.S.
11. Oklahoma (11-2, 6-2)
Like so many times before, the Sooners got past Nebraska.
12. Nevada (12-1, 7-1)
The Wolf Pack win 12 games for the first time in the F.B.S.
13. Virginia Tech (11-2, 8-0)
Turnaround complete, Hokies head to the Orange Bowl.
14. Nebraska (10-3, 6-2)
An extremely disappointing loss to Oklahoma.
15. Oklahoma State (10-2, 6-2)
The Cowboys have plenty of time to think about final loss.
16. Missouri (10-2, 6-2)
In a rare occurrence, the Tigers are happy with bowl pick.
17. Alabama (9-3, 5-3)
Only in Alabama is three losses a letdown.
18. Texas A&M (9-3, 6-2)
I’m sure the Aggies can’t wait to get back on the field.
19. Utah (10-2, 7-1)
Two bad losses, but perfect the rest of the way.
20. Mississippi State (8-4, 4-4)
From the Egg Bowl to the Gator Bowl.
21. South Carolina (9-4, 5-3)
If only the Gamecocks had batted down that Hail Mary.
22. Florida State (9-4, 6-2)
Put up a good fight, but Virginia Tech was too strong.
23. Hawaii (10-3, 7-1)
Hawaii is headed to — where else — the Hawaii Bowl.
24. U.C.F. (10-3, 7-1)
From wire to wire, Conference USA’s best team.
25. West Virginia (9-3, 5-2)
The Mountaineers tie for the Big East, but it means little.

Auburn still #2, eh? I suppose they didn’t beat SCar convincingly enough the second time.

  2. Bob J says:

Here’s my take on the top ten, based on actual play this season: Oregon, Auburn, TCU, Ohio State, Stanford, Boise State, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Missouri.

Only one game to go, in which The Greatest Team In College Football plays Army.

    BEAT NAVY!

  4. DMK says:

Since I’m in the mood for beating a dead horse this morning: I know that having 10 wins next to your name looks real nice, but I just don’t see why Hawaii, UCF, or Utah need to be in the top 25. Look who they played, look who they beat, look who they lost to. Florida, Iowa, Maryland, whoever, makes more sense to me.
